Theirs to rule, ours to submit

Why belt up when I can just plant myself on a seat for the journey? Why pay allegiance to those in the corridors of power? Again, the filling of my tax returns is as simple as getting the nil returns option clicked at that last minute?

Just as wives are to submit to their husbands, we are called to submit to the authority on this side of eternity. How? See, I am reminded of obedience to follow the stewardship of the leaders capped with the earthly authority for their being in these positions is God ordained as long as obedience to the very authority does not lead to disobeying God, if it does then disobedience to the earthly authority is inevitable. After all, we must obey God rather than men just as the Hebrew midwives who feared God did contrary to the King’s order in Exodus 1: 17

If the leaders are “good”, gladly welcome the ruler for such is a blessing unto us and if evil, glory to God for s/he serves the role of trial and judgement, one put down and another lifted (Psalm 75:7). Abiding by the laws of the earthly rulers is a must for from this very law comes punishment if broken, again our conscience tells us to submit to government for peace to reign. Grace to us is given for such. Remember, those at the helm of leadership as serving God in those positions, it is their ministry hence we ought submit, pay our taxes as expected and abide by the laws of the land, to Caesar give his dues.

Christianity is a lifestyle, a daily endeavour hence if unashamed, we ought to witness Christ in all we do, through obedience as citizens. Therefore submit for such if ours, theirs is to rule.
